Socks inspired by countless long days and nights on the fireline

Hi, I'm Nate.

Wanted to share a bit of the backstory as to how this brand came to be:

I live in a very small town in Northern California's High Sierra. I moved here in 2017 to pursue snowboarding and operate my other company, Shred Soles, Snowboard boot insoles and socks.

After snowboarding my little heart out for a couple of seasons - I joined the local Fire Department, Bear Valley Fire, as a volunteer with aspirations of serving the local community.

During a busy fire season in 2020, I was asked to provide mutual aid for a station down the road as they were mostly all engaged in local wildland fires. Three from our department volunteered for a 24 hour shift.

We ran several medical calls and even one "extinguish and educate" burn pile call.

Our 24 hour shift was due to be over at 12:00 PM - and we were tired!

11:55 AM - the tones went off!!! Our engine was toned out (along with many other resources) to a new start in a town 45 minutes away!

When we arrived on scene, it was chaos! Extreme fire behavior, crowning 60 feet high in the Wildland Urban Interface - pine canopy and it was nearly dark at 12:45 PM from the smoke blocking the sun.

We found incident command in the middle of the road - he pointed to a defendable parking lot and building and said "get to work!"

We were the first engine to put water on that fire.... and I was hooked.

I was never looking to become a wildland firefighter, but over the next three days on that assignment -I fell in love with doing hose lays straight uphill in knee deep duff. Sleeping on the ground, exhausted. Cutting line behind the sawyer and swamper. Putting water on a Ford Ranger as fire began to burn it's tires and was working toward the cab. And, of course  getting a mystery brown bag of food for sustenance containing many Uncrustables!

That fire inspired my passion for wildland firefighting over the next six years. With great mentors and many fires in the state of California - I've spent my summers on incidents all over the state and Nevada!

Wildland Firefighter Socks are born out of desire to create a sock that it is up for 21 day deployments back to back and season after season. Wicking sweat, moderating heat, controlling odor and preventing blisters. Made in California with the most advanced wool blend available!
